As the Corona pandemic has taken over the world, our inner world has started to change. A big emotion is “fear”, followed by anxiety and sadness. Many factors have become unknown and the reality is that we like to be in control. We want to know what’s going on tomorrow and a month from now. We often have 5 and 10 year plans. However, it seems that this won’t be the case in 2020 and maybe even the following years. Our lives have changed in just a couple of days and they’re about to change even more. While we can’t control everything in the world, we must learn to take control of what we feel. Whatever you’re feeling, label it and allow for it to be just a feeling. Don’t allow yourself to be consumed by that feeling.
Let me give an example: you keep watching the news and checking how many people have been affected. You open all the links that have a title of “Corona/ Covid-19”. You keep talking with everyone about what’s going on. After all that, you wonder why you’re feeling stressed out and your mind is going to the worst case scenario.
Let’s flip on the switch! Literally turn off the TV, put your phone on silent and just breathe. Think of a memory that you had a lot of fun with your friends/ family. Think of an accomplishment you did. Remember a time that was very tough for you, but you overcame it. Squat. Do push ups. Do anything/ think of anything else, but what's going on right now! Don't relieve your fear! I will be talking more on what happens internally with stress hormones and how they affect the body and brain.
Yes, be cautious! Stay isolated as much as you can, but remember thatyou are aliveand being isolated isn’t the end of the world. In fact, you are protecting the world right now!You are contributing to global health. Use this time wisely to fuel your mind, feel more grateful for things you forgot to appreciate, and take time to understand yourself!
Sending you light and happiness!
PS:If it's hard, reach out to help to family and friends. Reach out to anyone, but don't hold it in. Whatever you're feeling is acceptable and know that we're all in this together!
